Closing event Welfare Improving monitoring Solutions for cHickens (WISH) project

31 mei 2024 | Merelbeke

We are delighted to welcome you to the final conference of the Welfare Improving monitoring Solutions for cHickens (WISH) project, an innovative initiative funded by VLAIO. This research is funded by the imec ICON project ‘WISH’ (Agentschap Innoveren en Ondernemen project nr. HBC. HBC.2021.0664).

The primary objective of this project was to enhance poultry productivity and welfare monitoring through:

  1. Early detection and quantification of impaired broiler chicken welfare and performance associated with disease, stress and unwanted behaviour
  2. Investigation of the effects of innovative housing improvements such as lighting, animal based sensor, cameras, microphones, ultra-wide band, accelerometer on the abovementioned conditions.

To meet these benchmarks, the WISH project focused on developing various combinations of sensor and algorithms for interpreting data to enhance welfare in conventional broiler farming.

The main outcomes of this 27 months project will be presented on May 31st 2024 at Ghent University – Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (Salisburylaan 133 9820 Merelbeke, Belgium).

During the event, research companies (imec, Waves, IDLab, Ghent University) and commercial companies (Poulpharm, Vetworks, Explorentis, Lopos, Roxell) will present the main outcomes of the project, as well as a practical demonstration of the available tools.

Below an overview of the half day event program:

  • 13.30-15.00 – The WISH project: overview and rationale of the project
  • 15.30-17.00 – Practical demonstration of the WISH project outcomes

The final program will be shared near the event.

Initial presentation will take place in the Auditorium maximum of the campus. At the beginning of the event, we will provide you with more details on how to reach and move between the exhibition booths in the campus for the demo part of the event.
